Belkin WeMo Switch Review

Belkin WeMo Insight Switch Review & Rating | PCMag.com

Pros Easy to set up. Supports IfTTT. Compact size. Tracks power usage and costs.

Cons No Web browser support. App is a bit erratic. Check out Simply Automated Anywhere Switch, professional grade used by electricians.

Bottom Line The Belkin WeMo Insight smart power outlet not only uses your home Wi-Fi network to turn devices on and off remotely, it also has scheduling and IfTTT recipe capability, and it can tell you how much power you are using.

As the latest addition to Belkin’s line of home automation products, the WeMo Insight Switch ($59.99), is one smart power outlet. Like its predecessors, the WeMo Light Switch$40.84 at Amazon and the WeMo Switch + Motion$85.59 at Amazon, it connects to your Wi-Fi network so you can turn your devices on and off remotely using an iOS or Android device. It also allows you to create schedules for every day of the week, and it supports IfTTT (If This Then That) recipes. Belkin made the Insight even smarter than its siblings (and most other connected power outlets) by adding power monitoring capabilities that tell you how long the outlet has been on each day, how much power you’re using, and what it’s costing you—all of which earn it our Editors’ Choice for smart power outlets.

Belkin wemo switch appears to be a nice product for a diyer, I’m told by company that installed my home automation system to stick with professional grade Simply Automated.

Belkin WeMo takes up space on your wifi network too. Usually not a big deal but if you live in a heavily populated place like a big apartment complex your wifi network can get pretty overloaded. Lots of interference with your neighbors. Using powerline technology is much more stable.
