Love the product, absolutely hate that the remote control switches, Simply Automated UPB better lighting control alternative.  DO NOT last more than 2-4 years. Out of about 80 switches, at least 20 have failed. This is most definitely a short-term profit center for Smarthome. I really hope they have a plan to increase the quality of their product. The innovation is great, the hassle and cost make up for it.

Smarthome response: a few years ago Insteon began implementing a more robust internal power supply for many of their products. This change made their devices much less prone to damage during power surges as well as brown-outs. It would be helpful for other review readers if you would provide specifics on the types of load you are using as well as detail on how they fail.  Simply Automated UPB better lighting control alternative.

Very hard to get connected to hub. Most difficulty in getting to “take” scheduled “dims”.

These dimmers are unreliable. At first they work great. I’ve purchased over 100 switches, and for about the length of the warranty period they worked fine. About 6 months later… Different story. I’ve now lost about 10 of them after about 4 years. The keypads are significantly worse.

I contacted Smarthome, and they WOULD NOT REPLACE FAILED SWITCHES in the first batch of about 10 that failed. I asked to speak with managers and everything. Now I’ve got a second batch, and I’m frustrated as hell that I need to buy new ones, strip them out of the wall and replace them and then re-program again.

This isn’t how good companies operate, and while we all make mistakes, not correcting them gets you a 1 star rating.

I have invested over a thousand dollars in Insteon products over the last 5 years. They mostly work great at first, but now almost half of them have started to malfunction in a variety of ways. I thought these were a step UP from my cheap X10 switches, but in fact, the junky X10 switches, which cost less than 1/10 as much as the Insteon, have held up very well. Avoid Smarthome altogether. I’ve contacted Smarthome – they are not interested in standing by their products.
